Space's I'm Loving: Part XXIV

http://www.mybestdecor.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's brick tile walls, stainless steel hardware, and use of wood

This kitchen is the perfect mix of warmth and modern. Often times, a modern space can feel cold and uninviting. By using wood for the kitchen island, and floors, the kitchen feels inviting. The stainless steel hardware is my favorite element in this space. The handles have a noticeable weight to them, and the light bounces beautifully off them. Rather than having a generic tiled backdrop and upper cabinets, the designer of this space used a brick tile and forwent the upper cabinets. This aids in the modernity of the space. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's vanity, use of marble and glass

I could see this bathroom in my home! Couldn't you? This bathroom is all about that modern-vintage looking vanity. The clean lines, marble finish, and design is the perfect example of 70s-80s design. The use of marble in this space is shear perfection. The marble finish highlights its movement. The bathroom in my home stretches from the sink to the ceiling. Having a large mirror is perfect for getting ready and making the space appear larger. By dividing the mirror into sections it doesn't feel as overwhelming. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's vintage furniture and overall design

This space could fit right into a home located in the mountains or an apartment in New York City. The wood paneled walls give this effect. The furniture in this space falls on the more modern side. It' simple and functional. My favorite piece in this space is the bar. The circular shape and gold legs are very retro. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's use of color, and light fixture

This bright colored space have so much energy and life. I love the use of color in this space. It makes the space feel incredibly inviting and fun to be in. Through I'm not a fan of the sofa, I do like the armchairs. In a space like this a unique shaped sofa, something a bit more unique would be the perfect piece. The light fixture in this space calls all the attention. I love its unique design. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Weekly Start Off: No 28

http://www.flickr.com/photos/pboehi/
Happy Monday, October 28, 2013, readers! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. This weekend I found myself browsing the web for extreme homes. From homes built literally into the mountains to homes with the most unusual geometry. What I learned from this fun half hour of extreme home searching is: any house can be built. This phenomenal house is built right into the mountains. What I like about this house is that it's not made of stone, but wood. This juxtaposition creates a big statement.

1. If you love extreme homes that check out this Pinterest page, it's full of extreme homes that'll make you say ooh and ah! This structure is one of my favorites. Super extreme!

2. When I think of extreme homes, I also think of unique fashion statement pieces! Love these Eddie Borgo earrings, super cute. Or maybe you need a pair of Gucci curved leather booties

3. Since we're on a bit of an extreme roll, how about some Tomato Soup Cupcakes? I have to admit, I'm a bit surprised and intrigued by this recipe. I'm going to give it a try! Let me know how it goes if you decide to try it as well!

Trend 101: The Coat

http://carolinesmode.com/
Get the Look: Similar (Coat), Similar (Overalls), (Nike Sneakers)
The temperatures are starting to drop in the Big Apple, and so the coat craze has begun! Whether it be graphic print coat from Clover Canyon or something cool and retro inspired from up and coming designer Antipodium, each fall/winter season there are so many designers that put a smile on my face with their unique statement coats. So what are the biggest coat trends of the season you ask? Well, I've been spotting a lot of plaid inspired coats, a modern take on a classic trench coat, beige coats with a classic cut, and bright colored--almost spring colored coats. (ABOVE) I love the layering, and print/style mixing that is going on here. A pair of sneakers, paired with a retro plaid coat, and pair of overalls. How very geek, sporty chic!

(1) A classic trench coat with a modern twist. I love the simplicity of this look. It's a look with simple, clear pieces. A white t, a simple knee-length skirt, and kick-ass trench. The shoes are a statement of their own.

(2) Not going to lie, when I first saw this photo I thought the girl modeling was an Olsen sister! Mixing stripes works well, as long as the stripes are all moving in the same direction.

(3) A classic brown coat can be mixed and matched with a variety of pants, shoes, etc,. When you opt for such a simple coat, it's crucial to make the look pop through the usage of different/ unique pieces. In this look I love the shoes and pants. The combination works well and is hip.

(4) The classic girl. This coat is a mix of the 1920s and 50s. This mix is a big trend this season. The coat is given a modern touch with a more simple collar. You can follow similar styling to the classic brown coat look.

(5) Bright colored coats are where it's all at. Wearing a dark colored coat during the colder moths can be super depressing so spicing it up with a pop of color is a must. I love the styling here. A printed skirt, neon vest, black turtle neck, and white heels! Wearing a bright colored coat means going all out.

Today's Must Have: Oct 23, 2013

Woof, woof! I absolutely love this Rottweiler pouch. A playful puch is the perfect accessory to any look. Going to work, a dinner or for a casual stroll? Wear this pouch! The graphic print is sure to draw attention and stir up conversation. If you like this piece, than you are going to love the matching tote! When choosing some pieces to match with this pouch stay away from bold patterns. The pouch is a statement piece. Paring the pouch with another bold pattern will minimize the intensity of this piece. I've selected a few pieces below!

Glass In Between

http://artfrontgallery.com
I'm a huge fan of this series of glass in between rocks and books by Japanese-born artist Ramon Todo. To create this wonderful juxtaposition, Todo used fragments of the Berlin wall, volcanic rock, and books, and placed in between the two surfaces a perfectly cut, very smooth, fragment of glass. The result is an incredible combination of opaque and translucent. (ABOVE) This Marble and stone piece is my favorite in the series. I like the lighter colored rock, and water-blue glass. There's a coolness to the piece. I could see a desk surface in this material, a counter top, or even a light fixture.

(1) I like how the glass pops against this dark volcanic rock. The very coarse rock surrounding a very smooth fragment of glass creates a beautiful contrast.

(2) This piece of stone and fragment of glass share a similar likeness. What do I mean? Well, both the piece of stone and glass are linear, and have straight lines. They work well together and create a strong piece.

(3) A piece of orange stone found in Paris. I love the color of the stone and would use this color for my staircase. The way the light hits the glass causes the glass to change it's movement, complementing the rock's movements well.

(4) A blue book houses a larger piece of glass. I love the simplicity of the book. I wonder if one can open the book? What do you think of the series?

Moving In: Historic Italian Mansion

http://www.sothebysrealty.com
How gorgeous is this Italian mansion located in Lucca, Italy? The home has eight bedrooms and nine full bathrooms. It was built in the XVI century, and has proven to stand the test of time with many of its original details still in tact.(ABOVE) Trees line the driveway and an iron gate marks the entrance. I love the rugged look of this driveway. You don't expect there to be anything beautiful on the other side. There's an aura of mystery.

(1) The home is very fitting for it's location and the period it was built in. I love the home's symmetry as well as it's green shutters. In the center of the facade is a large medallion, really adds to the character of the architecture. An added bonus is the large property.
http://www.sothebysrealty.com

(2) Terra Cotta pots line the home. I love the energy that these flowers bring. The yellow stucco works well with the shutters and stone window and door frames. This home looks like it belongs in a storybook, it's too perfect.
http://www.sothebysrealty.com

(3) The property is stunning. I love the greenery. The greenery softens the home and puts the home in a dreamy setting. Without the greenery the property would not have the same impact.
http://www.sothebysrealty.com

(4) The pool is an added bonus. I'm guessing that the structure off the pool can be used as a pool house or a guest house. What I like about the pool area is the grass section and low shrubbery. By keeping shrubbery low, the pool receives direct sunlight.
http://www.sothebysrealty.com

(5) Adjacent the pool is a tennis court. Yes it could use a bit updating, but nonetheless it's got great bones. I like having a red tennis court, I almost like it more than a green court. What do you think of the home and its property? Would you move in?

Space's I'm Loving: Part XXIII

http://31.media.tumblr.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's vintage furniture and accessories

This phenomenal office space features furniture that dates back to the 1950s and 60s. I love the simplicity of the pieces. My favorite piece is the desk. I love the ability of having shelving on the opposite side. Pops of color are brought in through the area rug. The furnishings in this space are fitting for the architecture. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's furniture pieces and accessories as well as stone work

Bringing stone into a home can be quite challenging. Add too much and the space can be quite cold, add too little and it does not make enough impact. By placing a super cozy area rug, as well as cloth armchair, the space feels warm and inviting. I love the swivel tubchair, and Benni Ourain area rug. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's architecture, as well as unique furniture and accessories.

This space has an incredible architecture. The original windows, built in cabinets, and plank floors bring that sense of elegance and originality into the space. To complement the originality of the architecture, the designer of this space brought pieces that hold their own, yet work well together. My favorite pieces are the console table and dining table and chairs. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's wood paneling, lighter furnishings, and ceiling fixture.

The wood paneling in this space is remarkable. It grounds the room, and brings so much warmth and texture into the space. Wood paneling in a space can go incredibly wrong if not done correctly. It can either look dated, or it be overpowering. To soften the wood paneling, the designer of this space placed lighter colored furnishings. I love how these pieces pop against the wood. The ceiling fixture brings a pop of excitement into the space! Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.
